College Basketball: Cards Visit Notre Dame; UK vs Auburn; IU at OSU

The Louisville Cards return to the court Saturday  night at Notre Dame.

Number 11 U of L is coming off a victory at Rutgers Wednesday.   The Cards are now 19-4.  This is their  first matchup with the Fighting Irish since the semifinals of the Big East Tournament last March at Madison Square Garden.  The Cards won that game.

Notre Dame is 18-4 and ranked 25th in the country.   The Irish had a three-game winning streak broken Monday by Syracuse.

Tipoff at South Bend is at 9:00pm Saturday.

The Kentucky Wildcats host Auburn at 4:00pm Saturday.

Cards Will Try to End Losing Slide at Georgetown

The University of Louisville men’s basketball team will try to snap a two-game losing streak  Saturday when the Cards visit Georgetown.

Coach Rick Pitino’s team was ranked number one in the country a week ago, but has since fallen to Big East Conference opponents Syracuse and Villanova.

"Like I said to you guys before the season, we are going to have our peaks and valleys," Pitino said at his Friday press conference.

Louisville Cardinals, with Dieng, Beat Kentucky Wildcats 80-77

The Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team on Saturday defeated the Kentucky Wildcats the first time since 2009 in a game that featured the return of center Gorgui Dieng, who was sidelined in November with a wrist injury.

Dieng to Return For Cardinals's Game Against Wildcats

The Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats square off tomorrow in their annual regular season basketball battle.

U of L has lost four straight to the Wildcats, including their Final Four matchup back in March in New Orleans, but the Cardinals are back this season with an experienced team and bring a 11-1 record and No. 4 ranking to the game.

It will also mark the return of Cards’ center Gorgui Dieng the lineup. He’s missed the last seven games with a broken hand.

Joker Phillips Hired At Florida

Former Kentucky football coach Joker Phillips has landed a job at the University of Florida.

Phillips will join the Gators as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

Florida coach Will Muschamp says Phillips will begin work Friday, adding that his "background as a head coach and the number of years he has coached wide receivers will be a tremendous asset to our coaching staff and players.”

Phillips was a longtime receivers coach before taking over at Kentucky in 2010. He went 13-24 in three years with the Wildcats.
