Kentucky State Auditor Plans to Contact Mayor Greg Fischer About KFC Yum Center

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen will soon contact Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer to discuss a potential audit of the KFC Yum Center.

The arena recently suffered a downgrade of its debt to junk status.  Louisville Metro Councilman Dan Johnson is calling for an audit.

Auditor's office spokeswoman Stephanie Hoelscher says Edelen will call Fischer about the matter soon.

Louisville Metro Councilman Calls for Review of KFC Yum Center-UofL Lease After S&P Lowers Rating

Standard & Poor's has reduced the rating of bonds used to pay for the construction of the KFC Yum Center.

The lower rating of "BB" from "BBB-" on senior lien bonds stems from concerns that the tax increment financing district used to pay part of the debt isn't performing as previously expected, the financial services agency said. The downgrade lowers the bonds below investment grade to "junk" status.

U of L Men's Basketball Team to Play Three Public Scrimmages

The national champion University of Louisville men’s basketball team will conduct three preseason scrimmages next month.

The games will be held October 5, 12 and 19 at the KFC Yum Center.    The two latter games tip off  at 3:30pm; the starting time for the October 5  game will be announced later.

The Cards won their third NCAA title in April, finishing the season with a 35-5 record and a 16-game winning streak.

Kentucky Wildcats Led Nation in 2012-13 Men's Basketball Attendance

The Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team did not have a great 2012-13 season. Fresh off a national championship, they finished 21-12 and had a disappointing run in the National Invitational Tournament.

The Louisville Cardinals, on the other hand, finished 35-5 and won the national title.

Noise and Notes: Not-So-Super PAC Progress Kentucky, Yum Center Woes, 'Cannabis Majority'

The Louisville-based super PAC Progress Kentucky made national news this week when WFPL broke the story of them attacking Senator Mitch McConnell’s wife based on her Asian heritage.

Leaders with the group have apologized—twice, but just about every Democrat has denounced them or kept their distance, and McConnell has pounced on the comments since returning home.

Even the senator's harshest critics have cried foul.

From The Courier-Journal:

This is no way to defeat McConnell. If anything, it does what McConnell cannot do for himself. It remarkably casts him in a sympathetic light.

But some observers have pointed out Progress received sparse coverage from the local media to being with while getting plenty from national outlets.

Report: Virginia Beach No Longer Seeking NBA Franchise

One fewer city is pursuing an NBA franchise.

Virginia Beach's mayor said Tuesday that the city is "withdrawing" from efforts to build an 18,500 seat arena in the community with an NBA team as the main tenant, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported.
