No More Postgame Handshakes, Says Kentucky High School Sports Authority

LEXINGTON — Kentucky's athletic sanctioning body has ordered high schools not to conduct postgame handshakes in all sports following more than two dozen physical confrontations the past three years.

Tuesday's directive from Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett posted on its web site didn't mention specific fights or conflicts but said several fall sports have had postgame incidents. The organization says it's "disappointing" to take such action but that it became necessary because of occurrences statewide and nationally.

Proposal Would Change Venue for High School Recruiting Complaints

The illegal recruiting of high school student-athletes in Kentucky is out of control, and athletic officials need help to fix the problem.

That’s what state Rep. Keith Hall told a legislative panel in Frankfort today.

The Democrat from Pike County is proposing a bill that would require all appeals of disputes involving a student’s athletic eligibility to be resolved in Frankfort instead of local court.
