Land of Tomorrow's Summer of Liberation

Land of Tomorrow gallery opens the second installment of its summer El Campo de Mañana series tonight with an appearance by noted rock groupie Cynthia Plastercaster to open an exhibit of her work. The artist, who has been casting in plaster the (Not Safe For Work) body parts of rock stars for decades, will host a storytelling evening with a Q&A to follow at the Broadway gallery.

Painter Explores Advertising Influence in 21C Lecture

The figures in artist Ryan McGinness’ “Women” series are flattened, graphic shapes, calling to mind both a Matisse painting and public signage, compelling in bold color and broad strokes.

“His work is exploring contemporary culture in a really compelling way, drawing on advertising and different kinds of visual iconography that we’re surrounded by, from both fine art and consumer culture,” says 21C Museum Hotel curator Alice Gray Stites.

Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft Names New Associate Curator

Louisville gallery director Joey Yates is joining the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft artistic staff. As associate curator, Yates will help manage exhibitions, organize public events and contribute to educational outreach.

The associate curatorial role will be significant. Executive director Aldy Milliken says going forward, the museum’s exhibitions will inform everything from programming events to what’s in stock at the museum store.
