Business Owner Plans Produce Truck to Serve Louisville Food Deserts

The owner of a store that sells local fruits and vegetables in Louisville is raising money to bring his products to areas of the city that don’t have easy access to fresh produce.

Root Cellar owner Ron Smith launched his campaign on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter. He already owns stores in Old Louisville and Germantown, but now he has plans for a mobile store.

Louisville's Demand for Local Food Outpaces Supply, Study Says

A new study says that Louisville businesses, food distributors and residents are going out of their way to eat local food, and would eat more if they could.

The study was commissioned by non-profit Seed Capital Kentucky and conducted by a consultant in New York. It use both quantitative and qualitative methods to survey residents, restaurants, grocery stores and food distributors.

Local Food Distributor Grasshoppers Hosts Summit

Louisville-based Grasshoppers Distribution will host the summit. The local food distributor recently earned the confidence and investment to grow its operations, but professionals say there's still work to do before small distributors can compete with larger stores.
