College Football: Cards Need Win to Keep Conference Title Hopes Alive

The University of Louisville football team plays its home finale tomorrow against Connecticut.

Coach Charlie Strong’s Cardinals need a victory over the 4-6 Huskies to keep their Big East Conference title hopes alive going into their last regular season game at league-leading Rutgers.

"It’s not what anyone is going to do to us, it’s what we’re going to do ourselves. What’s key for us is just our effort, our preparation heading into these next two games and just making sure that we are mentally and physically locked in," Strong said this week.

Louisville Cardinals Stuck in Conference Realignment Turmoil, Again

This week, Maryland and Rutgers bolted from the ACC and the Big East, respectively, to the Big Ten (or B1G, as they call it now).

Just like that, the appearance of a fragile peace among college athletics conferences shattered.

The re-arranging again jolted the University of Louisville -- not that the last round of conference realignment ended ideally for the Cardinals, stuck in a Big East whose football membership spanned from San Diego to Annapolis.

So where does this leave UofL? Searching still, it seems.

After three straight road games, the University of Louisville football team returns to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium Saturday.

The 14th ranked Cards take on South Florida, which has struggled to a 2-4 record this season. Coach Charlie Strong’s team is 6-0 and coming off a 45-35 win at Pittsburgh last weekend, but Strong says there’s still plenty of room for improvement, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

After a week off, the University of Louisville Cardinals return to the football field Saturday.

U of L plays its third straight road game with a visit to Pittsburgh.

To accommodate television coverage, the game will have an unusual kickoff time of 11:00am, which doesn’t bother Cards’ coach Charlie Strong.

"It’s going to be an early rise. So we get up early. When you get up you don’t have much time at all, it’s time to go play the football game. Which is good, I like that, I like getting up," Strong said.
