U of L Men's Soccer Team To Play For Final Four Berth

The University of Louisville men’s soccer team can advance to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament with a victory tomorrow at Maryland.

The Cards are 14-5 on the season and 3-3 on the road, with one of those losses coming at Maryland in late August.

Coach Ken Lolla says his team is ready for the rematch.

"Psychologically, I think it helps us that we got pounded a little bit (in the first game)," he said. "Our guys are looking to have another crack at them. We’re a much different team, so we’re looking forward to going back there."

Rutgers tied the game at 17 midway through the fourth quarter, but a 29 yard field goal by John Wallace with less than two minutes remaining put U of L ahead for good.

Louisville Cardinals Stuck in Conference Realignment Turmoil, Again

Credit University of Louisville athletics

This week, Maryland and Rutgers bolted from the ACC and the Big East, respectively, to the Big Ten (or B1G, as they call it now).

Just like that, the appearance of a fragile peace among college athletics conferences shattered.

The re-arranging again jolted the University of Louisville -- not that the last round of conference realignment ended ideally for the Cardinals, stuck in a Big East whose football membership spanned from San Diego to Annapolis.

So where does this leave UofL? Searching still, it seems.
