College Football: Cards Host Missouri State; UK Looking For First Win

The Louisville Cardinals return to college football action tomorrow, hosting Missouri State.

The 23rd ranked Cards are coming off a season-opening victory over Kentucky.

Senior center Mario Benavides  says he’s not worried about his team becoming complacent against the unranked Bears, who were trounced by Kansas State last week 51-9.

U of L Moves Up In College Football Polls

The University of Louisville football team has risen two places in the latest Associated Press national rankings.

The Cards are 23rd in this week’s poll, up from 25th going into their season opener against Kentucky.    U of L is 24thin the latest USA Today/coaches poll after being unranked last week.

Cards Beat Wildcats 32-14

The Governor's Cup will remain in Louisville for another year.

The Louisville Cards defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 32-14 today as the programs renewed their rivalry for the 25th time.

It was Louisville's second straight victory over Kentucky but the first at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium since 2006.

U of L running back Jeremy Wright ran for three touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Teddy Bridgewater passed for 232 yards.

Senorise Perry added a 47 yard touchdown run for the Cards, and John Wallace kicked a 22 yard field goal.

Cards Not Taking UK Lightly

The Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals return to the football field this Sunday, facing off in the annual battle for the Governor’s Cup.

The Cards are ranked 25th nationally in the AP pre-season poll and heavily favored in this year’s matchup, but offensive lineman Alex Kupper says his team knows better than to take the Wildcats lightly.

Cards, Cats Facing Unique Challenges As Football Season Begins

University of Louisville and University of Kentucky football teams will meet for the 25th time this Sunday.

It’s the season opener for two teams facing a different set of challenges.

In Louisville, there are high expectations for coach Charlie Strong’s Cardinals. In his third season since he was hired away from Florida to turn around a program that faltered for three years under previous coach Steve Kragthorpe, Strong’s team is ranked 25th in the AP pre-season poll, and is favored to win the Big East Conference title.

Cards and Cats to Renew Football Rivalry Sunday

The Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats open their football seasons against each other next weekend.

U of L and UK will battle for the Governor’s Cup Sunday at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Coach Charlie Strong’s Cardinals are coming off two consecutive bowl appearances and were the Big East co-champions last season.

Pitino Announces Staff Changes

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino has announced two new additions to his staff and a new role for a current staff member. 

Kareem Richardson (at left in photo) is the Cards’ new assistant coach, a vacancy that was created by the departure of associate coach Richard Pitino to Florida International University two weeks ago.

Rick Pitino says Richardson has become a top-level recruiter during his 15 year coaching career, most recently at Xavier.
