Louisville Cardinals Retain Assistant Football Coach

Louisville defensive line coach Clint Hurtt will remain on the Cardinals' football staff under "significant" penalties imposed by the school for NCAA violations committed while a Miami assistant coach.

The NCAA Tuesday announced penalties for Miami, including a two-year show-cause penalty for Hurtt requiring compliance updates to the sanctioning body. Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich says that the school had suspended Hurtt but plans no additional action against him.

Louisville Cardinals' Charlie Strong: 'I've Never, Ever Thought About the NFL'

Louisville Cardinals football coach Charlie Strong isn't paying much attention to an NFL panel’s suggestion that he’d make a good candidate for a professional football coaching job.

ESPN reports that an NFL advisory board formed to identify potential minority coaches is pushing Strong and Stanford’s David Shaw.

“I’ve never, ever thought about the NFL," Strong said, speaking to reporters on Monday.

Louisville Cardinals' Chane Behanan Suspended Indefinitely

The Louisville Cardinals' defense of the men's basketball national championship will begin without a star of last season's Final Four.

Junior forward Chane  Behanan is suspended indefinitely for a violation of team and university rules, Coach Rick Pitino announced on Thursday.

Behanan may return to the team, but Pitino said it isn't "probable."

The junior forward was presented a plan in the last week that could restore him to the team—but he's already violated it, Pitino said.

College Football: Central Florida Hopes to Spoil Cards' Party

The University of Louisville football team returns to action tomorrow night, hosting Central Florida in U of L’s second straight nationally televised contest.

This will be the Cards’ 100th game at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, and the Knights could be the toughest opponent of the season for coach Charlie Strong’s team.

"They’re a team that doesn’t beat themselves," Strong said this week.

College Football: U of L Survives Rutgers, 24-10

Led by a strong defensive effort, the Louisville Cardinals posted a 24-10 victory over Rutgers Thursday night at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

The eighth-ranked Cardinals had four total interceptions and sacked quarterback Gary Nova eight times.

The Cardinals needed a stepped-up defensive performance to offset quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's off night. The junior completed 21 of 31 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw an interception and fumbled early in the fourth quarter.

College Football: U of L Hosts Rutgers in Rivalry Finale

The 8th-ranked Louisville Cardinals take on Rutgers tonight at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.  

Both programs will move to separate conferences next season, but before their rivalry comes to an end, the schools will square off in their lone meeting as American Athletic Conference members.

Coach Charlie Strong’s Cardinals are undefeated in five games heading into the contest, which will be televised nationally by ESPN.

Louisville Cardinals Overwhelm Temple Owls; UK Falls Short at South Carolina; IU Beats Penn State

Teddy Bridgewater threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns to keep No. 7 Louisville undefeated with a 30-7 win over winless Temple on Saturday.

Bridgewater made it look easy against the overwhelmed Owls (0-5, 0-2 American Athletic Conference). He threw for 228 yards in the first half to help the Cardinals roll to a 24-0 lead.

The Cardinals (5-0, 1-0) lost a bid for their second straight shutout when Temple scored with 38 seconds left.

College Football: Cards Visit Temple; UK at South Carolina; IU Hosts Penn State

In college football, the Louisville Cardinals return to action after a week off.  Number seven U of L opens conference play against the Temple Owls in Philadelphia Saturday,  with kickoff set for noon.

The Kentucky Wildcats are trying to get back on the winning track after two straight losses, but they’ll have their work cut out for them tomorrow night at South Carolina.

South Carolina is 3-1 on the season.   Coach Steve Spurrier’s team is ranked 12th in this week’s coaches’ poll.   UK is 1-2 and coming off losses to Louisville and Florida.

Pitino Not 'Bent Out of Shape' Over Boston Radio Show Insult

The defending national champion Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team will hold the first of three public scrimmages this weekend. 

Coach Rick Pitino says guard Kevin Ware has been cleared to begin full physical workouts.  Ware broke his leg during this year’s NCAA regional final against Duke.    The Red-White scrimmages will be held the next three Saturdays at the KFC Yum Center.

College Football: Rebuilding Wildcats Hoping to Snap 26-Game Losing Streak to Gators

The University of Kentucky football team will try to end a long losing streak to Florida when the Wildcats take on the Gators tomorrow in Lexington.

Kentucky’s last win over Florida was in November of 1986, a 10-3 victory at Commonwealth Stadium.

Last season, the Gators beat the Wildcats for the 26th straight time, a 38-0 drubbing in Gainesville.

First-year UK coach Mark Stoops says his players can use the streak as motivation if they want, but shouldn’t let it become a distraction.
