Louisville Cards Advance to NCAA Elite Eight

Russ Smith matched his career high with 31 points to lead three Cardinals in double figures, and top-seeded Louisville overcame its toughest test yet in a 77-69 victory over Oregon on Friday night in the men's NCAA tournament.

Kevin Ware added 11 and Gorgui Dieng had 10 points and nine rebounds for Louisville, which has now won 13 straight.

Pitino 'Having a Blast' as Cards Resume Tournament Run

The Louisville Cardinals will try to keep their Final Four hopes alive tonight with a victory over Oregon in the men’s NCAA tournament.

Top-seeded U of L will take on the Ducks in a Midwest Region semifinal in Indianapolis.

Last year, coach Rick Pitino led the Cards to their first Final Four appearance in seven years, losing to Kentucky in the national semifinal. If U of L gets by Oregon, the Cards will face either Duke or Michigan State for a shot at their second straight Final Four berth.

Louisville Cards Prepping for Friday's NCAA Matchup with Oregon

The Louisville Cardinals are in Indianapolis, preparing for tomorrow night’s men’s NCAA Tournament matchup with Oregon.

The Cards meet the Ducks in a Midwest Region semifinal.     U of L coach Rick Pitino says 12th seeded Oregon may be the most underrated team in the tournament.    They advanced with double digit victories over Oklahoma State and St. Louis.

The Louisville Cardinals are among the teams dominating at this year's men's Division 1 NCAA basketball tournament, which resumes Thursday night. The team credits harassing, active defense for its wins.

But there's something else at work, too: deflections. The team puts a lot of stock in them, though deflections aren't an officially tracked statistic.

It's Been An Ugly Year For College Basketball

There once was a wise old basketball coach named Arad McCutchan who led the Evansville Purple Aces to five national championships in the small-college division, dressing his Purple Aces in bright orange T-shirts. I've been reminded of this recently as a number of grubby athletic directors have sold out to the sporting goods companies, allowing their teams to be costumed in the most hideous outfits.

U of L, UK Reach Women's NCAA Sweet Sixteen Round

The Louisville Cards and Kentucky Wildcats are both headed to the third round of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.

Second-seeded UK advanced to the Sweet Sixteen with a 84-70 victory tonight over Dayton.     The Wildcats will face Delaware, a number six seed, Saturday in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Fifth-seeded U of L made it to the third round with a 76-63 win over Purdue at the KFC Yum Center.
