Kentucky Tops Men's AP College Basketball Poll; U of L is Ranked Third

The Kentucky Wildcats, with the nation’s top recruiting class, are ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press' preseason Top 25 men’s college basketball poll.

It's Kentucky's third preseason No. 1 and first since 1995-96 when the Wildcats won the national championship. The other preseason No. 1 was in 1980-81.

The Wildcats finished 21-12 last season and were upset by Robert Morris in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Kentucky beat out Michigan State in a close vote for the top spot.

Louisville Cardinals Heading to White House

The national champion University of Louisville men’s basketball team will visit the White House this week.

The Cards will be honored by President Barack Obama Tuesday afternoon in the Rose Garden for winning the 2013 NCAA championship.

Afterward, the team will tour the Capitol building and visit with U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, a U of L alumnus.

The Cards won this year’s championship in April, defeating Michigan in the title game.

It was U of L’s third men’s NCAA title, and the first in 27 years.

Louisville Cardinals, Indiana Hoosiers Make College World Series. And Will Play Each Other.

For just the second time in school history, the University of Louisville baseball team is going to the College World Series.

Jeff Thompson pitched seven strong innings in U of L’s 2-1 victory over No. 2 overall seed Vanderbilt in a NCAA super regional today in Nashville.

The Cards have won a school-record 51 games this season. They swept their best-of-three series with the Commodores, who defeated U of L 10-2 back in April.

With the NCAA's Top Seed, Pitino's Cards Set Sights on Next Goal

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino says his team has worked hard to earn its top overall seed in the NCAA tournament, but the Cards are not dwelling on the designation.

Pitino says its one of many steps toward the ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

"When we lost three in a row, we set goals.   We set regular season goals, we set tournament goals, we set seeding goals.  Now you go on to your next goal.  Until it ends, you just keep putting forth goals to your basketball team," Pitino said today.

Cards Rise in College Basketball Polls

The Louisville Cards have moved up this week in both the Associated Press and USA Today men’s college basketball polls.

U of L is number eight in the AP survey, up two spots from last week.   The Cards are sixth in the USA Today coaches poll, up from ninth last week.

Gonzaga captured the top spot in both polls.  The Zags are the number one team for the first time in school history.

Indiana dropped to second in both surveys after losing at Minnesota last week.

College Football: U of L Beats Missouri State; UK Notches First Win

The Louisville Cards improved to 2-0 on the season with a 35-7 victory today over visiting Missouri State.

Teddy Bridgewater threw two touchdown  passes, U of L’s running backs added two more scores and Matthew Nakatani kicked two field goals for the 23rd ranked Cards.   The Bears dropped to 0-2.

U of L faces North Carolina next week at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. 

The Kentucky Wildcats rolled over Kent State 47-14 in Lexington. UK evens its record to 1-1 and will host Western Kentucky next Saturday night
