Louisville Metro Police Officer Accused of Ordering Woman to Expose Herself

A Louisville Metro Police officer is facing misconduct charges after he allegedly asked a woman to expose herself and later touched her improperly.

Officer Joe Burden is accused of asking the women to partially strip her clothes in October, after detaining her during a call to service and falsely telling her she had a warrant—and that other officers wanted her arrested, according to a criminal complaint summons. She complied.

Soon after, the woman filed a complaint with LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit.

Shootings on Sunday Give Louisville its 7th, 8th and 9th Homicide of 2013

Three men died Sunday afternoon outside an apartment complex near Berry Boulevard, bringing Louisville's number of criminal homicides to nine as we near the end of the first quarter of 2013.

The shooting appears to have followed a drug deal, said Lt. Barry Wilkerson, the Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit commander.

New Albany Gun Buyback Ends Six Hours Early After Funds Run Out

That didn't take long.

A New Albany gun buyback program ended in less than two hours Friday after police accepted about 250 firearms and ran out of money.

"We had a big turnout," said Maj. Keith Whitlow, a New Albany Police spokesman.

"If we do it again in the future, we can learn from our mistakes ... and try to get more people involved."

People were lined up hours before the buyback began, he said.

Authorities: Laser Pointers Can Blind Pilots, Cause Disaster

Louisville Metro Police and the FBI are warning people of the consequences of aiming laser pointers at aircraft.

Officials say a series of recent local incidents, often intended as pranks, has raised new concerns about the risks to commercial and police aircraft.

Officer Carey Hirtzell was circling an LMPD helicopter above an investigation scene last weekend when someone pointed a green laser at the aircraft.
