Self-Taught Mosaic Artist Tracy Pennington Wins Second Annual M.A. Hadley Visual Art Prize

Mosaic artist Tracy Pennington is the winner of the second annual Mary Alice Hadley Prize for Visual Art. The $5,000 prize is awarded from the George and Mary Alice Hadley Fund at the Community Foundation of Louisville, with assistance from the Louisville Visual Art Association.

Louisville Visual Art Association's $100 Sale Expands

Last year, the Louisville Visual Art Association added a second, more affordable event to their annual high-end art auction, which serves as a scholarship fundraiser the art organization conducts in conjunction with the University of Louisville's Hite Art Institute -- they put a selection of small paintings up for sale, all a uniform 8-inches-square, all selling for $100.

Sculptor Ed Hamilton Among Local Artists to Host Studio Tours

Louisville sculptor Ed Hamilton’s finished works are mostly larger-than-life monuments installed at grand public spaces – the 12-foot-tall sculpture of boxing legend Joe Lewis in Detroit’s Cobo Center, Louisville's Waterfront Park's Abraham Lincoln memorial and the statue of York, a slave who played an integral role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition, overlooking the Ohio River on the Belvedere.

LVAA’s new exhibit is curated by clicks. The sixteen artists who will show work in "By the Numbers" were chosen based on web analytics for Artebella, LVAA's online art gallery that promotes a different Kentucky artist every day. Art enthusiasts can sign up to receive a daily email highlighting an individual artist on the website, where the participating artists are archived.

Susanna Crum Awarded Inaugural M.A. Hadley Visual Art Prize

Louisville native Susanna Crum moved home after graduating from the University of Iowa with a master of fine arts degree. She brought with her a fiancé, Rudy Salgado, who shares her passion for printmaking. Together, they plan on opening a printmaking studio here in Louisville where artists can produce fine art etchings, screen prints, woodcuts, digital prints and lithographs.

LVAA Adds $100 Art Sale to Annual Auction

Every year, the Louisville Visual Art Association partners with the University of Louisville Hite Art Institute to host a high-end art auction to raise funds for LVAA's children’s fine art classes and U of L's Mary Spence Nay Scholarship. This year, they're adding an art sale on the morning of the auction.

The By-Bye-Buy Art Sale begins at LVAA’s @PUBLIC Gallery, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

LVAA Opens New Gallery on Whiskey Row

The Louisville Visual Art Association’s new downtown gallery is open.  As part of its downtown relocation, LVAA has opened a gallery called Public in Whiskey Row Lofts (131 W. Main St.). The first invitational exhibit, "Public @ Public," features fifteen local artists who created new work illuminated by lightboxes exploring the public theme.

Now the Louisville Visual Art Association is putting individual artists in the spotlight with Artebella Daily, a website and email campaign featuring a different local artist every weekday.

Open Doors Opens Exhibit

The Louisville Visual Art Association's Open Doors Program will celebrate two years of community-based arts projects with a retrospective exhibit, “Making Art. Changing Lives.”

Twelve art projects, selected from nearly forty pieces of art completed through the program, will be on view to the public in the Water Tower, with an opening reception on July 22. The exhibit will run through August 19.
