University of Louisville to Unveil Never-Before Seen Martin Luther King Jr. Photos

As part of Black History Month, the University of Louisville's Brandeis School of Law will unveil never-before seen photos of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaking in the school’s Allen Courtroom.

Five of the 12 photos will become part of the permanent display at the courtroom’s entrance, along with a plaque commemorating King’s 1967 visit.

Law school librarian Robin Harris says she recovered the photos with the help of U of L’s Archives and Special Collections and U of L alum Steve Porter.

U of L's African American Theatre Program Honors Kentucky Women in MLK Day Program

  Every year, Lundeana Thomas, a theatre arts professor who heads the University of Louisville's African American Theatre Program, leaders her students in a research and writing project culminating in a theatrical performance honoring King's legacy. A free event Monday at U of L will be the 15th annual AATP Martin Luther King Day celebration.

Longtime Activist Suzy Post to Get Metro Louisville's 2014 Freedom Award

Longtime Louisville activist Suzy Post will receive Metro Louisville's 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award.

Post has a long history of social activism in Louisville. She was president of what is now the ACLU of Kentucky and later the founding president of the Metropolitan Housing Coalition. She's also the last surviving plaintiff in the 1970s lawsuit that forced the city's public schools to desegregate, the city said.
