For Second Year, Louisville's Parks Rank Poorly on National List

Louisville is at the bottom of a list ranking American cities based on their parks for the second year in a row.

The city was ranked 49th out of 50 in this year’s ParkScore ranking from the Trust for Public Lands. The ranking pits the nation’s 50 biggest cities against each other, using metrics like per capita park spending, park size and park access.

City Departments Hope Gun Owners Will Use Common Sense

Louisville Metro Government departments are urging gun owners to use common sense now that firearms are allowed in city-owned buildings.

The General Assembly passed a state law forbidding cities from enacting stricter gun laws than the state in 2012, and the Metro Council changed its definition of deadly weapons last week as a result.

Under the new provisions taking effect this month, residents are allowed to openly carry a firearm in Metro facilities such as the mayor’s office and City Hall, as well as libraries, parks and the Louisville Zoo.

Eastern Parkway to Close for Tree Removal

A two-block stretch of Eastern Parkway will be closed for several hours over the next few days. Louisville Metro Parks crews are removing four pin oak trees that are reportedly diseased and damaged. The department will close Eastern Parkway between Baxter and Quadrant avenues from 9 am to 3 pm Tuesday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured one block north, to Edenside Avenue.
