Cleanup Underway in Flood-Stricken Areas of Louisville

Some Louisville-area residents have begun assessing and cleaning up flood damage to homes and other property. Authorities say six inches of rain fell on parts of the city over the weekend, prompting dozens of evacuations and rescues from flash flooding in low-lying areas, mainly in south-central Louisville.

MetroSafe officials say they helped more than 80 people escape water that was waist-deep in spots. Some evacuees took shelter at Atherton High School and others in a church.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire, Evacuation at Train Derailment Site Endure

For updates on Friday regarding the train derailment in southwestern Jefferson County, go here.

Update 7 p.m.: The fire is still burning at the train derailment site in southwestern Jefferson County and the evacuation of a 1.2 mile radius endures. Crews are off-loading styrene monomer from a car the site Thursday night, said Jody Duncan, a MetroSafe spokeswoman.
