ACLU of Kentucky Wants More Inclusive KET Senate Debate

The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky is calling on Kentucky Educational Television to hold a more inclusive U.S. Senate debate next month.

KET is set to hold a debate featuring Republican incumbent Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes on Oct. 13.

Libertarians have taken KET to task, however, for creating new debate criteria that party leaders argue was aimed at excluding their candidate, David Patterson, from participating.

Mitch McConnell Extends Lead Over Alison Lundergan Grimes in Latest Bluegrass Poll

Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has added slightly to his lead over Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes, according to the latest Bluegrass Poll released Saturday evening.

The survey of 569 likely Kentucky voters puts McConnell ahead of Grimes by four points in the tightly contested U.S. Senate race, a lead that is still within the margin of error with less than 10-weeks until Election Day.

Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell’s campaign manager Jesse Benton stepped down late Friday as a federal bribery investigation of Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential run expands.

In a released statement, Benton, who ran Paul’s presidential campaign, said he met with McConnell on Friday afternoon and resigned in order to avoid further distractions in Kentucky’s tightly-contested Senate race.

A secret recording of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell telling a summit of wealthy conservatives that he plans to block many populist measures sent Democrats in a fury this week.

In a leaked audiotape released Wednesday by The Nation, McConnell vowed to block a raise to the minimum wage, tackling student loan debt, and extending unemployment benefits if he becomes majority leader.

Centre College Cancels McConnell-Grimes Senate Debate Efforts

Centre College has canceled its efforts to host a Kentucky U.S. Senate debate between Republican incumbent Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.

The decision comes days after Centre launched an online campaign asking voters to help persuade both campaigns to agree to their Sept. 2 date.

A super PAC supporting Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell is taking advantage of Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes' tour bus controversy by asking if it can use the vehicle for a similar price.

Kentuckians for Strong Leadership sent a letter Thursday to Signature Special Events Services seeking to rent the 45-foot-long bus adorned with Grimes’ photo and logo for $456 per day.

Centre College Wants Answer on Grimes-McConnell Debate

The president of Centre College is asking Kentucky voters to help persuade Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Alison Ludergan Grimes to commit to a debate at the school.

Last month, Centre partnered with AARP Kentucky and Louisville TV station WAVE-3 to host a public debate scheduled for Sept. 3. The group gave both campaigns a deadline before the Fancy Farm picnic, but neither side has provided a response.

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes traded familiar barbs Wednesday while discussing agricultural issues at the Kentucky Farm Bureau headquarters in Louisville.

The 90-minute forum offered voters one of the few opportunities to contrast the two candidates in person, and covered a wide range of topics from the farm bill, immigration reform, and Affordable Care Act.

McConnell, 72, used the forum to showcase his role in tobacco settlements, Kentucky’s hemp pilot project and his overall clout in Washington.
