Follow Up: Check Out Public Montessori School Enrollment Numbers for Jefferson County Public Schools

Earlier this month, WFPL reported on the increased student enrollment at the Montessori School of Louisville, which more than doubled the number of students it serves.

Montessori education is an approach that combines grade levels in the same classroom and uses hands-on learning techniques to teach students.  

We have since received the enrollment numbers in Jefferson County Public Schools' three Montessori programs and thought we'd share them.

Louisville Montessori School Doubles Enrollment

The Montessori School of Louisville has seen increased interest over the past year, says head of schools Gregory Dixon.

The small program located in Louisville's East End has more than doubled its enrollment to 130 students this year. Dixon says the school has added two classrooms, there are  waiting lists for some programs and he’s been pushed out of his office to make more space.

“Montessori is growing. Montessori movement is growing in North America and the states and specifically in Louisville right now," he says.
