Phoenix School of Discovery's Move to Myers Building a Homecoming for Principal

When the Phoenix School of Discovery relocates to the Myers Middle School building next school year, it will be a homecoming for David Bennett.

Bennett is the principal of the Phoenix program. But, before that, he spent 18 years at Myers as a school administrator—four years as an assistant principal and 14 years as principal.

“It will be kind of odd,” he said.  “But, I am thrilled because I know it is going to be great for our school.”

Jefferson County Board of Education Votes to 'Repurpose' Myers Middle School

Myers Middle School is set for some major changes before the 2014-2015 school year begins.

For starters, it will no longer be a middle school.

What it will be, though, is still up for debate.  The Jefferson County School Board will hear proposals in June on how to "repurpose" the Myers building.  It could be an alternative school or a preschool, according to JCPS officials.

The Jefferson County Board of Education on Monday approved the changes for Myers Middle.

Tonight, the Jefferson County School Board Will Consider 'Repurposing' Myers Middle School

The Jefferson County Board of Education tonight will consider a proposal that would "repurpose" the struggling Myers Middle School.

Starting next year, the Myers building would cease to be a middle school.

Under a plan to be presented to the board, sixth-graders assigned to Myers would instead be disperse to 11 JCPS middle schools: Carrithers, Westport, Highland, Thomas Jefferson, Newburg, Ramsey, Shawnee, Western, Noe, Highland and Meyzeek.

Principal of Struggling Myers Middle School Won't Be Back Next Year

Following a recommendation from the Kentucky Education Education, Myers Middle School will have a new principal by the 2014-2015 school year.

The Jefferson County Board of Education had an opportunity to appeal the decision, but will not be taking any action, a district spokesman said.

State Audit Recommends Removal of Myers Middle School Principal

Findings from a Kentucky Department of Education audit of Louisville’s Myers Middle School may lead to the removal of the school’s principal.

The recommendation to remove Jack Baldwin from his duties at the academically struggling school came on the heels of a Jefferson County Board of Education decision to implement a restaffing model at Myers in hopes of improving performance scores.

Group Opposes Piloting First JCPS Cadet Middle School Program

The Jefferson County Board of Education will consider funding the district’s first middle school cadet academy program Monday night, but some question whether the program would benefit students at the school.

Myers Middle School would pilot the cadet academy program next year and after review could eventually become an official magnet program, according to the proposal. The school would also act as preparatory program for students who want to participate in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program in high school.
