NCAA Tournament: U of L Women Beat Iowa, Advance to Regionals on Home Court

In the women’s NCAA basketball tournament, Shoni Schimmel had 26 points, seven assists and five steals to help Louisville roll over host Iowa 83-53 Tuesday night to earn their fifth trip to the Sweet Sixteen under coach Jeff Walz.

Antonita Slaughter added 17 points on five 3-pointers for the third-seeded Cardinals (32-4), who advanced to the regional semifinal at their home court, the KFC Yum Center.

U of L made it to the title game of last year’s tournament, losing to champion Connecticut.

U of L Falls to UConn in Women's NCAA Title Game

A community celebration for both U of L teams will be held today (Wed) at the KFC Yum Center.   The University of Louisville women’s basketball team’s run toward an NCAA championship has ended with their defeat in the title game.

The fifth-seeded Cardinals fell to top seed Connecticut  93-60 tonight in New Orleans.

U of L got off to an early lead but couldn’t hold off the Huskies for long, trailing by 19 points at halftime.

UConn won its eighth national title, tying Tennessee for the most women’s championships.
