The Planned Parenthood affiliates in Kentucky and Indiana are merging starting next month.

The new nonprofit announced Monday will be known as Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky and will serve patients at 28 health centers across the two states. Planned Parenthood officials say the merger, effective July 1, will strengthen services in both states and ensure reproductive health remains accessible and affordable.

All 28 centers will offer preventative health care services, such as pap test, breast exams, birth control and pregnancy tests.

Planned Parenthood officials say they anticipate a court challenge to a bill signed into law by Indiana Gov. Mike Pence today that tightens the state's regulations on distribution of the abortion pill.

The bill  cleared the Republican-controlled legislature last month. The new law will also require clinics that provide only drug-induced abortions to meet the same standards as clinics that perform surgical abortions.

Pence says the new law will ensure that the abortion pill is given under proper medical care.

Indiana lawmakers are dropping a proposal that would require clinics offering the abortion pill perform ultrasounds on women seeking the drug.

A House committee removed that provision Wednesday from a broader Senate bill that would force clinics that provide only drug-induced abortions to meet the same facility requirements as clinics that perform surgical abortions.

The committee voted 8-5 to advance the bill to the full House.

Planned Parenthood released a television attack ad against Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday over his support of a lawsuit against a birth-control policy in President Obama's health care law.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A federal appeals court has ruled that Indiana can't cut off funding for Planned Parenthood just because the organization provides abortions.
