New Program Will Help Accused Veterans Suffering from Substance Abuse

District Judge David Holton

Kentucky veterans suffering from substance abuse who are charged with crimes will soon be able to enter a treatment program through a new statewide partnership.

The Veterans Treatment Court is starting in Louisville. It’s a partnership by the statewide drug courts, Morehead State University and the veterans’ administration.

A majority of veterans who commit crimes after ending their active duty do so because of substance abuse, District Judge David Holton said. So the state is setting up special courts to help.

Yarmuth First TV Ad Focuses on Obamacare Benefits

Pledging to do what's right for Louisville, Congressman John Yarmuth is using his first and only TV ad in the Third Congressional District race to highlight his support of President Obama's health care law.

With little over a week until Election Day, the 30-second spot brags about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, such as expanding coverage and banning the use of pre-existing conditions to deny insurance coverage.

David Williams' exit as Kentucky State Senate president will likely stir a recurring major issue: gambling.

The leading Kentucky state Senate Democrat said senate  President David Williams's departure should bring new life to efforts to bring casino gambling to Kentucky racetracks, while a leading voice against expanded gaming said the move was politically motivated.

Mourdock: Donnelly Playing "Sleazy Politics"

In a new television ad airing statewide, Republican Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock is going on the offensive in response to a series of attacks from his opponent and national Democrats.

The spot slams Congressman Joe Donnelly for "sleazy politics," and escalates what has become a national race for control of the Senate. Mourdock's camp is specifically responding to tough ad put out by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee that targets the GOP nominee's comments about that pregnancies resulting from rape were intended by God.

Mourdock's campaign says Donnelly and the Democrats are "twisting" his word and "attacking his faith" over the issue of abortion.

Outgoing Kentucky State Senate President David Williams: "We Ran an Honest Senate"

The first ever Republican state Senate president will end his 12-year reign by taking a circuit court judgeship back home. 

David Williams will resign his leadership position and Senate seat next week to start a judgeship that he was appointed to by his chief rival, Gov. Steve Beshear.

It ends Williams' nearly 30-year legislative career, which included more than a decade as his chamber's leader. Williams leaves his party with a "super majority" in a Senate that's part of a divided state government.
