It Snowed Again; JCPS Calls Off Saturday Activities

Update 8 a.m.: It Snowed Again

So the snow is expected to move out of the Louisville area by Saturday afternoon. Louisville and surrounding areas are under a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m.

Jefferson County Public Schools has canceled all school district activities and all activities at JCPS facilities because of the weather scheduled for Saturday. As we noted Friday, the Saturday Academy has been canceled, too.

Jefferson County Public Schools on a 2-Hour Delay on Friday

Update 7 a.m.: The National Weather Service said it was 2 degrees at about 6 a.m. Friday in Louisville. The wind chill is forecast to be as low as -11.

Earlier: Jefferson County Public Schools will again operate on a two-hour delay on Friday because of the winter weather situation.

The low temperature Thursday night into Friday morning is forecast to be -5 degrees—and the high temperature on Friday is forecast to be 21, the National Weather Service said.

JCPS on 2-Hour Delay Thursday Because of Winter Weather Concerns, Again

Update 6:35 a.m.: It's Cold

At about 6 a.m. Thursday, the temperature in Louisville was 9 degrees—and the wind chill was -10, the National Weather Service said. There was a chance of flurries before 9 a.m., also.

Jefferson County Public Schools is on a two-hour delay Thursday. A handful of other school districts are closed. There's a list below.

Earlier: Temperatures will drop to the single digits early Thursday morning and not get out of the teens until Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Cold Replaces Snow as Louisville Area's Winter Weather Issue; JCPS Delays Open

The snow that hindered the Louisville area's Tuesday morning commute has ended, but cold temperatures that came with it are sticking around, the National Weather Service said.

Jefferson County Public Schools is working on a two-hour delay on Wednesday. Several school districts aren't opening at all. (Check the list below.)

Update March 4: Jefferson County Public Schools have now closed 11 times this school year. 

Jefferson County Public Schools (and many other Louisville area school districts) called off classes Tuesday even before snow really started falling.

It was a prescient decision—roads throughout the region became slick during the morning commute.

Once Again, Louisville Area Forecast to Get Snow During Morning Commute

In this week's winter weather issue, the Louisville area has the potential for commute problems—this time Tuesday morning—because of snow.

Snowfall is forecast to develop in Southern Indiana and Central Kentucky overnight, the National Weather Service said.  

The snowfall is forecast to accumulate to 1 to 3 inches—and most of it is expected to fall between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday, the weather service said.

Compounding matters, wind gusts are expected to be as strong as 35 miles per hour, and the temperature will drop rapidly.

Snow in Louisville Area Leads to Slick Morning Commute

Update 10:25 a.m.: Snow Totals

Here's some info from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which in Louisville is responsible for interstate. The numbers are as of 10 a.m. Friday:

Bullitt – Snowing  with 1.25 inches accumulation so far, partly covered roads, crews salting and plowing

Franklin – currently no precipitation with 0.5 inches accumulation so far, wet pavement, crews salting

Henry – moderate snow with 1 inch accumulation so far, partly covered roads, crews salting and plowing

Extreme Cold Moves Out of Louisville Area (But it's Still Cold)

Jefferson County Public Schools and many other school districts are back in session Wednesday after two straight days of canceled classes because of extremely cold weather.
