Heavy Rains Cause Flooding, Evacuations, Road Closures in Louisville

Flooding caused by heavy rains overnight across the Louisville area has led to numerous road closures and some evacuations.

Most of the evacuations occurred in the Whispering Hill, Guardian Court, Rockliff and Peabody areas of southeastern Louisville, MetroSafe says.

A Red Cross shelter has been set up for the evacuees at Atherton High School. Overnight, Louisville Fire & Rescue had 12 rescue runs and 250 assist runs because of the rain, MetroSafe says.

Authorities caution against driving vehicles onto roadways covered in water.

14,000 in Louisville Without Power Following Severe Weather

About 14,000 LG&E customers in Jefferson County are without power following a batch of severe storms that passed over the city this afternoon.

LG&E officials say they're working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Update: Now it's a Flash Flood Warning

Louisville is under a flash flood warning until 8:30 p.m., the National Weather Service says.

The weather service says it's gotten reports of minor flooding in flood-prone areas. It argues people to not drive on water-covered roads.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued Sunday afternoon for parts of Jefferson County in Kentucky and Floyd and Harrison counties in Indiana.

The storm may bring wind gusts as strong as 60 miles per hour, the National Weather Service says.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 5:35 p.m.

Winter Weather is Coming; JCPS Cancels After-School Activities Because of Snow Threat

With the potential for bursts of snow, Louisville and the surrounding area are under a winter weather advisory until 2 a.m. Friday. Because of this, Jefferson County Public Schools is canceling all after-school activities  for Thursday evening.

Louisville has a 50-percent chance of snow before 5 p.m., which could lead to accumulation of less than a half-inch, the National Weather Service said. Snow showers are likely Thursday night—between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.—and could bring as much as an inch of accumulated snow.

Early Morning Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages

Updated: More than 3,000 Louisville Gas & Electric customers in Jefferson County were without power early Wednesday morning after a thunderstorm pass through the Louisville area, prompting a tornado warning that expired at 4:55 a.m.

A few trees were reported toppled in the Pleasure Ridge Park area, said a supervisor for MetroSafe, citing preliminary reports.
