Kentucky Shakespeare Names Matt Wallace Producing Artistic Director

The Kentucky Shakespeare board of directors announced today that Matt Wallace, former artistic associate for the organization (2001-2010) and current artistic director of Shakespeare Behind Bars, would re-join the organization as producing artistic director.

Wallace has strong ties in the local arts community. In addition to his work with Shakespeare Behind Bars, he is currently director of children's theatre and audience development at Derby Dinner Playhouse. Wallace directed productions for Kentucky Shakespeare through the 2010 summer season ("Richard III").

Going Behind Bars for Shakespeare's 'Richard III'

Last night, I visited Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange to see this year's Shakespeare Behind Bars production. I've followed the work of the company for years, but this was my first time visiting the prison for an actual production.

Made Glorious Summer: Shakespeare Behind Bars' 'Richard III' Open to Public in June

Louisville's Shakespeare Behind Bars is in its 18th season producing the works of Shakespeare with a company of incarcerated men. In June, they’ll open “Richard III,” the Bard's dramatization of the rise and fall of Richard, the Machiavellian Duke of Gloucester, and England's House of York, at Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange.

IdeaFestival: Shakespeare Behind Bars

While Baratunde Thurston’s presentation on Friday may have garnered the most enthusiastic and energetic audience response, no presentation earned a more emotional response at IdeaFestival than Saturday's Shakespeare Behind Bars panel moderated by founder Curt Tofteland.
