Winter Weather is Coming; JCPS Cancels After-School Activities Because of Snow Threat

With the potential for bursts of snow, Louisville and the surrounding area are under a winter weather advisory until 2 a.m. Friday. Because of this, Jefferson County Public Schools is canceling all after-school activities  for Thursday evening.

Louisville has a 50-percent chance of snow before 5 p.m., which could lead to accumulation of less than a half-inch, the National Weather Service said. Snow showers are likely Thursday night—between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.—and could bring as much as an inch of accumulated snow.

Sleet, Freezing Rain Hits Louisville Friday Morning; Accidents Slow Morning Commute

Sleet was falling early Friday morning in the Louisville area in a system that could also bring snow and freezing rain into the early afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. It covers Jefferson County and Kentucky counties to the south and east, plus Floyd, Clark and other Indiana counties to the northeast.

JCPS Open, On Schedule Wednesday

  After Tuesday night's winter weather, all Jefferson County Public Schools are open and running on their regular schedules. District officials announced the decision early this morning.

City crews began treating the roads last night as precipitation fell.

It Snowed, It May Snow More, Heavy Accumulation Unlikely

This morning, as Louisvillians pulled up their Facebook feeds, they found, mixed among the expected taunts about the upcoming UK/U of L basketball game, photos of local snow accumulation.

The National Weather Service says more snow may fall throughout Saturday, tapering off after sundown. There is a slight chance of snow on Monday and Tuesday, but the heaviest is likely passed, says the NWS.
