Discarded Electronics Create Environmental Problems Nationwide...Is This the Case in Louisville?

The New York Times ran a story earlier this week that chronicles the growing problem of electronic waste in America. Even when consumers take their old devices to recycling centers (rather than disposing of them in landfills), often the electronics don’t actually get recycled properly. This made me wonder: is this the case in Louisville?

New Solid Waste Plan Could Include Plastic Bag Ban, Food Waste Pickup

Louisville’s solid waste board is set to vote on the city’s five-year plan at the end of this month. If it passes, residents could see changes in how their trash is handled and recycled.

The plan includes three big ideas: banning plastic bags for use with yard waste, allowing citizens to place food scraps at the curb for composting and setting hard limits on how much trash can be thrown out—and charging extra for more trash.

Solid Waste Public Comments Include Concerns About Handling of Yard Waste

A proposed ban on putting yard waste in plastic bags has won the support of several Louisville residents. The ban was one common element in the 23 written and four spoken comments Louisville’s Waste Management Board received Tuesday evening.
