Lawmakers Plan to Question Coventry CEO Over Contract Issues

Kentucky lawmakers will get their first chance tomorrow to ask a private Medicaid operator why it’s having so much trouble negotiating contracts with healthcare providers.

The CEO of CoventryCares will speak to lawmakers at a meeting of the Interim Joint Health and Welfare Committee. Coventry has been fighting with the Eastern Kentucky hospital network Appalachian Regional Healthcare over reimbursement rates and a new contract.

State Representative Tom Burch Speaks Out About Sexual Abuse He Suffered as a Child

One of Kentucky's leading voices against child abuse is speaking out about abuse he suffered as a child.

State Rep. Tom Burch, D-Louisville, is the chairman of the House Health and Welfare committee. Burch wrote a letter to the Lexington Herald-Leader that mentioned that he was sexually abused by a priest as a middle schooler and was also physically abused by his father.

State Will Open Louisville Area to Medicaid Competition, Burch Pushes for Delay


A Kentucky lawmaker says implementation of a federal mandate to allow private companies to compete for Medicaid contracts in Louisville could be delayed.

Currently, Medicaid in Louisville and the surrounding area is managed by the private company Passport Health Plan. But the federal government has ordered Kentucky to open the area to competition. And the company United Healthcare is already attempting to muscle into the region.
