Builder Hopes Sustainable Home Will Be a Model for Future Houses

Construction is finished on what could be the most sustainable home in the city, and  the home builder hopes to re-create his sustainable house in other areas.

Sy Safi’s model home is just outside the Gene Snyder Freeway, near Fern Creek. It looks like most of the other houses in this partially-finished subdivision. But Safi’s home is different.

Fischer Challenges Louisville Building Owners to Get Energy Star Certified

Louisville Metro Government has issued a challenge to the owners of the city’s commercial buildings: get Energy Star certified. Mayor Greg Fischer says he wants at least 25 buildings to receive the designation by the end of the year.

Energy Efficiency Saves Money, Teaches Lessons at Kentucky School

Kentucky’s utility rates are among the lowest in the nation. But even so, several public school districts have found that it still pays to build energy efficient schools. One such school in Warren County has taken efficiency even further, and is now generating more energy than the building uses.

Even when consumers take their old devices to recycling centers (rather than disposing of them in landfills), often the electronics don’t actually get recycled properly. In Public Meeting, Some Say Louisville's Draft Sustainability Plan Doesn't Go Far Enough

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer’s sustainability plan was both praised and panned at a public meeting tonight. Many people thought the plan needed to be bolder, while others applauded the attainable goals that were set.

Fischer released the plan last month. It sets an agenda for the next several decades in categories including energy, transportation and the environment.
