Why and How We Might Eat Local for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving day will send cooks to kitchens and eaters to table across Louisville and the rest of the U.S. For Richard McCarthy, it's a good reason to not just eat the food, but to think about where each ingredient and dish comes from and what it means to us personally.

McCarthy is the executive director of Slow Food USA, a national network  that supports, in their words, "good, clean and fair food for all." He was recently in Louisville and stopped by the WFPL studio. We talked about why and how Thanksgiving cooks can use local foods in their dishes.

Mayor Greg Fischer Endorses 'Food Principles' for Louisville

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer on Friday added his name to a list of nearly 50 entities that endorse a project focusing on creating accessibility to healthy food options for residents.

The Louisville Community Food Principles were created by the Leadership Louisville Bingham Fellows Class of 2013 to help direct the community toward a smart food culture by eliminating food deserts, educating the public about nutrition and supporting local sustainably farmed food.

Food Sustainability, Justice Focuses of Healthy Foods, Local Farm Conference in Louisville

Food sustainability and justice are the themes of Saturday's Healthy Foods, Local Farms conference in Louisville.

Aloma Dew, the conference coordinator, says people should have a right to know where their food is coming from and whether it has been modified.
