Kentucky Education Group Says New Teachers Need More Supports

The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence has presented its recommendations to lawmakers on how to improve teacher quality in Kentucky.

Prichard is an education think-tank that worked for over a year on the recommendations, which include finding ways to recruit new teachers to replace aging Baby Boomers and supporting equitable disbursement of new teachers among poor and better performing schools.

Kentucky also needs to do a better job supporting new teachers and those in training, says Prichard Committee Executive Director Stu Silberman.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan spoke at the FFA's National Convention in Louisville.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan says agriculture education is about the jobs of the future and not a backwards looking curriculum to preserve the past.

Over 50,000 students from the National FFA Organization—formerly Future Farmers of America—chapters around the country have been in Louisville this week for the annual conference taking place at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
