The University of Kentucky is establishing a partnership with two non-profit foundations to establish the National Center for Innovation in Education. With a focus on college and career readiness, the center will assist states in implementing the Common Core standards and helping students learn on a deeper level.

UK to Take Over Management of Eastern State Hospital

A new Eastern State Hospital is under construction at UK's Coldstream Research Campus

The University of Kentucky will replace the struggling Bluegrass Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board in overseeing the Eastern State psychiatric hospital in Lexington. 

Officials announced the new agreement between UK and the state Cabinet for Health & Family Services today at the university’s Coldstream Research Campus, where construction of a new Eastern State complex is underway.

Economist: Slow, Steady Growth in Kentucky in 2013

Kentucky’s economic growth in 2013 could mirror the advances made this year.

That’s according to Ken Troske, who directs the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Kentucky.

Troske predicts another two to three percent in economic growth. He says this year’s economic improvement came at a slower than anticipated pace.

“It’s certainly not the growth that you would expect coming out of a recession," Troske said.

UK Reports $2.4 Million in Annual Energy Savings

The University of Kentucky recently spent $25 million in energy savings projects, and that work is already showing results.

The Herald-Leader reports that costs have been cut by $2.4 million a year. $2.2 million of those savings will go toward the $25 million bond, while the remaining $200,000 will be set aside for future energy projects. And the projects have also reduced UK's carbon dioxide emissions by 23,291 tons a year.

UK Unveils New Tailgating Plan For Students

The University of Kentucky has released new rules for tailgating to address concerns over fighting and disorderly behavior in areas near Commonwealth Stadium. The new plan will be in effect for Saturday's game against Georgia.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the area where students are allowed to tailgate will be expanded but it will be closed off an hour after the game's kickoff.
