Every year, Actors Theatre of Louisville commissions a new multi-writer play to showcase its apprentice company during the Humana Festival of New American Plays. A project already forged through collaborative partnerships will take on a larger role within the community this season. 

Louisville historian Samuel W. Thomas is donating his personal collection of photos, negatives, manuscripts, audio tapes, maps and building plans to the University of Louisville Photographic Archives.

Thomas, a prolific Louisville historian, has written more than 20 books on Louisville neighborhoods, institutions and architecture.

Archives staff are currently sorting though 200 linear material, but an exhibit of notable photos is on display.

The University of Louisville will hold a conference on green infrastructure later this week. It’s meant to explore innovative ways to manage stormwater.  

Stormwater experts are usually quick to point out there are two ways to manage water runoff and prevent floods—with concrete infrastructure like collecting basins and pipes, or with green infrastructure like rain gardens and green roofs.

The Commission on Public Art will host “The Power of Public Space,” a two-day event bringing together citizens and experts from national art institutions with leaders from the University of Louisville and the Speed Art Museum to lead discussions on public art history, collections and conservation in Louisville. 

The events are free and open to the public. The symposium is co-sponsored by the Speed Art Museum and International Network for the Conservation of Contemporary Art – North America (INCCA-NA).
