U of L Scientists Develop Breath Test for Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Researchers at the University of Louisville have developed a test that uses a person’s exhaled breath to diagnose early stage lung cancer in patients with suspicious lesions.

Dr. Michael Bousamra and his colleagues found that elevated levels of certain compounds in a patients’ breath were predictive of lung cancer in 95 percent of cases.  The absence of the compounds was predictive of a benign mass in 80 percent of patients’ lungs.

Where Would Increased K-12 Education Funding Leave Kentucky's State Universities?

U of L student body president Carrie Mattingly says she's planning multiple trips to the state capitol this year to advocate for more higher education funds.

As the University of Louisville's student government president, Carrie Mattingly's job is to be the voice of her peers—and she said tuition increases hurt student wallets. But so do other costs associated with college.

“Housing has gotten to be a really sizable cost," she said. "If you don’t plan for it it’s really difficult to cover that with a part time job."

University of Louisville Reports Large Reduction in Carbon Dioxide Emissions

The University of Louisville is reporting early success reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In its climate action plan, the University of Louisville set a goal of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent by 2020. Now, the university has already met that goal…reducing emissions across all three of its campuses 27 percent since 2006.

Louisville Area College's Live Shooter Emegency Plans Rely on Awareness, Action and Social Media

In December, Indiana University Southeast locked down its New Albany campus, sending out this Tweet: “IU Southeast Emergency! An armed person has been seen on campus. Go into nearest room and lock door. Follow instructions from authorities.”

In turns out, a student brought a prop BB gun onto campus for class, interim chancellor Barbara Bichelmeyer says.

The center's annual guest speaker was chosen largely to spotlight the point.

Zulkiflee Anwar Haque—commonly known as Zunar—is a Malaysian political cartoonist and government critic.

Reports: Bobby Petrino Accepts Head Coaching Job at U of L

The University of Louisville is close to hiring a new football coach, and it appears that former Cards coach Bobby Petrino is coming back to town to replace Charlie Strong.

Petrino interviewed for the opening Tuesday and there are media reports that he has been offered and will take the job.

U of L's Teddy Bridgewater Will Enter NFL Draft

  Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has announced that he will forgo his senior season with the No. 18 Cardinals and enter the NFL draft.

Projected as a first-round selection and possibly the first QB taken this spring, Bridgewater passed for 3,970 yards and a school-record 31 touchdowns this season, including a career-best 447 yards with three TDs in Saturday's 36-9 rout of Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
