U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is defending Republican Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock and argues the GOP nominee's controversial comments on rape will not affect this year’s election results.

Paul was in Louisville Thursday speaking to the Rotary Club, where he talked mostly about the gridlock in Congress, fiscal policy and foreign affairs. But the senator’s political action committee—Rand PAC—is stepping in the middle of the closely watched Indiana Senate race.

Rand Paul's PAC Backs Todd Akin

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is running ads in support of controversial Republican Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin in his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill.

For the past week, RandPAC has been targeting Senate Democrats for voting against Paul's proposal to cut foreign aid to Libya, Egypt and Pakistan. The blistering ads have been running in key Senate races in Ohio, West Virginia and Florida, but have been criticized by high-profiled Republicans such as Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina.

Rand Paul Looking Forward to Daily Show Appearance

Rand Paul will once again visit the set of Comedy Central’s 'The Daily Show' tonight.

Paul will tape an interview with the satirical news show to promote his new book, Government Bullies. And while politicians are often the butt of jokes on the program, Paul is looking forward to a good time.

“I expect to be hilariously funny, and sarcastic and witty. We’ll see how it goes," he says. "I don’t know. He was a good interview last time I was on. He treats it as an opportunity to have a little discussion.”
