Louisville Metro Seeking Public Comment on Insight/Time Warner

Louisville Metro government will host four public meetings in November seeking public input on the cable television service provided by Insight/Time Warner.

The meetings will be:

  • 6 p.m. Nov. 28 at the East Government Center, 200 Juneau Drive
  • 6 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Southwest Government Center, 72189 Dixie HIghway
  • 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at Metro Hall, 527 W. Jefferson St.
  • 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at the South Central Government Center, 7201 Outer Loop

WDRB Back On Cable

This is what cable customer previously saw when they surfed to WDRB.

Cable customers in Louisville can once again watch the city's Fox affiliate, WDRB.

The station was previously at an impasse with Time Warner Cable over how much the provider should pay to broadcast WDRB's local and network content. Last week, the contract between the two expired and Time Warner pulled WDRB and its sister station WMYO from the cable lineup.

WDRB-TV in Louisville is currently without about half of its audience as negotiations continue with Time Warner Cable.

The talks are over how much Time Warner should pay WDRB to broadcast local content. Time Warner says it has offered a rate comparable to what Insight used to pay WDRB, but station officials say it won't cover the necessary costs to keep that station a Fox affiliate.

Without Cable Contract, WDRB Will Stream Newscasts

With the channel no longer available on Time Warner (formerly Insight) Cable, WDRB will put its local newscasts online.

The streaming will begin at 11:30 am Friday.

Response to the situation has been mixed. Comments on WDRB's website and Facebook page range from mournful—several say "I miss WDRB"—to angry, with commenters blaming either or both sides.

Talks Get Tough Between WDRB and Time Warner

The contract between Time Warner Cable and WDRB-TV in Louisville is on the verge of expiring.

Time Warner pays content providers such as local television stations to carry their programs on cable. Time Warner has reportedly offered WDRB and its sister station WMYO the same fees Insight Communications paid before Time Warner purchased the company. WDRB officials have refused the offer, and the WDRB newsroom posted a story detailing the talks.
