Three Freshmen Join JCPS School Board Monday Night

The Jefferson County Board of Education will hold its first meeting of the year Monday night and will swear in three new members who will serve the district over the next four years.

David Jones Jr. will replace Steve Imhoff in District 2, Chuck Haddaway will replace Joe Hardesty in District 4 and Chris Brady will replace Larry Hujo in District 7. All three won the majority of votes in last year’s election. The incoming freshmen all favor recent changes to the district’s student assignment plan, and all support the district’s academic plan set by Superintendent Donna Hargens. Over the past several weeks the three have been trained by the Kentucky School Boards Association and JCPS staff.  “I was a little concerned that I would step into the role, get sworn in on Monday and then have to learn right away,” Haddaway tells WFPL. “So I am very grateful that we’ve at least got a tip of the iceberg view of a lot of the logistics.” The board members-elect say they’re both nervous and excited to get started. “They’ve done an excellent job at preparing us for a lot of these subjects and have given us ample opportunities to be able to ask questions and have been extremely responsive,” Brady says. The board will elect its chair and vice chairperson at Monday’s meeting and it's also expected to hear a status report on recommended actions stemming from the curriculum management audit JCPS received a year ago.
