Time Warner Hits Off Button on WDRB

Update: WDRB is streaming its newscasts to accommodate cable viewers. After last minute negotiations fell through, Time Warner Cable has pulled the plug on WDRB and WMYO in Louisville. The cable operator and the local Fox affiliate were in talks for a new contract. Cable operators pay local channels (and other content providers) to broadcast content, and Time Warner had reportedly offered WDRB/WMYO the same rate Insight Communications (which Time Warner recently purchased) paid the channels in the last contract.According to a crawl played in the 11:00 hour on WDRB, the channel offered to accept the same payment for two years with the promise of an increase in the third year, but Time Warner refused. The station urged viewers to call Time Warner and encourage the company to keep WDRB and WMYO on the air, but the channels were shut off at midnight to Time Warner/Insight cable customers in Louisville. All that was left was a screen with the following message:"The ownership of WDRB & WMYO has forced us to stop carrying this channel. Visit www.letskeepiton.com for more information." WDRB posted the following statement:

WDRB is very proud to be a part of the Louisville community. We want to keep you informed and bring you the latest news, weather, and programming that affects your lives.

WDRB has tried very hard to reach an agreement with Time Warner but the deadline has passed. After much negotiating, Time Warner has decided to reject our repeated offers leaving many of our viewers without a local TV station you like.

WDRB and WMYO are owned by Ohio-based Block Communications, which owns a total of seven television stations and three newspapers.
