Time Warner Takes WLKY Off Insight Cable

For the second time this summer, a Louisville TV station has been pulled from the Insight Cable lineup.WLKY's parent company Hearst has been in negotiations with Insight's parent company Time Warner Cable for weeks. The talks have centered around the retransmission agreement, a document that stipulates how much Time Warner pays to rebroadcast WLKY's content. The contract expired at the end of last month, but a temporary agreement kept WLKY in the lineup until just after 12:00 am Tuesday. No new deal was struck, however, and the channel remains unavailable to Insight customers, who make up about 60 percent of WLKY's audience, according to General Manager Glenn Haygood.Instead of the local CBS affiliate, late-night viewers saw a blue screen with the text "WLKY has forced us to stop carrying this channel. Visit www.letskeepiton.com for more information."Minutes later, the message was replaced with a feed from Rochester, New York CBS affiliate WROC. The details of the talks are different, but the result is the same as Time Warner's last local standoff. Last month, retransmission talks between the company and WDRB continued past the previous contract's expiration, leading Insight customers to see the same blue screen on WDRB and WMYO. A new agreement was reached a week later, and in the meantime, the channels were temporarily replaced by sports and music programming.
