U of L Falls to UConn in Women’s NCAA Title Game

A community celebration for both U of L teams will be held today (Wed) at the KFC Yum Center.   The University of Louisville women’s basketball team’s run toward an NCAA championship has ended with their defeat in the title game.

The fifth-seeded Cardinals fell to top seed Connecticut  93-60 tonight in New Orleans.

U of L got off to an early lead but couldn’t hold off the Huskies for long, trailing by 19 points at halftime.

UConn won its eighth national title, tying Tennessee for the most women’s championships.

Sara Hammond led Louisville with 15 points, as the Cards finished their season with a 29-9 record.

The U of L men won the national title Monday night in Atlanta.  Louisville was vying to become just the second school to win championships in both men’s and women’s basketball in the same season, a feat first accomplished by Connecticut in 2004.

A community celebration for both U of L teams will be held Wednesday at the KFC Yum Center.
