U of L to Hold Conferences Examining Multiple Aspects of Sustainability

Several days of lectures and discussions about sustainability kick off this Thursday in Louisville.First, there’s theCampus Community Partnerships for Sustainability Conference. It’s co-hosted by Jefferson Community and Technical College and the University of Louisville, and features two days of events. Then, beginning Friday, Bluegrass Bioneers is coming back to town. From the CCPSC’s website: We're finalizing a schedule based on numerous proposals from dozens of faculty, staff, students, and community partners from across Kentucky for presentations, panels, posters, and field trips covering the following themes:

  • Food and agriculture
  • Stormwater management
  • Education for Sustainability
  • Energy
  • Green Architecture & Design
  • Waste management
  • Social & Environmental Justice
  • Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration
  • Transportation and Land Use
  • Raising Sustainability Awareness
Justin Mog is the assistant to the provost for sustainability initiatives at U of L. His hope is that the conference will help attendees think outside the box.“There’s so many folks in the world of sustainability that are just sort of doing small, rearranging of the deck chairs on the Titanic,” he said. “But how do we make more fundamental change that is truly going to take us down a different course? And I think a university is a great institution to try and start pushing that debate.”The conference begins Thursday. It’s open to the public and the events on Friday are free, but pre-registration is required.
