U of L Reconsiders Nucleus Innovation Park Master Plan Following I-65 Bridge Construction

Construction of the new I-65 bridge has forced the University of Louisville to reconsider its master plan for the downtown Nucleus Innovation Park. Officials are now determining where buildings should be constructed with respect to the bridge’s placement.

In March, U of L expects to break ground on a parking garage somewhere on the block at East Market and Floyd streets. That's where will sit the innovation park that will serve more new businesses currently specializing in aging care.“We have made the commitment to move forward with a garage, the planning has already begun but the construction will start in March and we’ll hope to have it done within a year and a half to two years from this point,” says Vicki Yates Brown, CEO and president of U of L’s economic development arm, Nucleus. The innovation park is expected to have four buildings and a parking garage, which may now be placed in the southeast corner of the block, which would run up against the interstate.

Brown says U of L is also moving forward with planning which of the buildings will be constructed next, although no details have been announced. She says it's likely the next project will be the sister building located to the east of the new facilities that opened this month.Brown says there have already been companies interested in the space that have approached her.
