U of L/UK Football Game Will Become Teams' Season Finale Starting in 2014

The University of Louisville's annual September football showdown with Kentucky will now be a regular season-ending rivalry game starting next year.The schools on Wednesday announced an agreement that shifts the intrastate matchup to the regular season's final weekend. Louisville will host the 2014 game on Nov. 29.Scheduling adjustments caused by expansion of the Southeastern and Atlantic Coast conferences to 14 teams — the latter of which includes Louisville, which joins next season — resulted in the move that will now make the Cardinals-Wildcats contest one of four in-state rivalry games between the leagues.Kentucky has played Tennessee in its season finale since 1953.   Next year’s game against the Vols will be the next-to-last contest.Kentucky leads the series with U of L 14-11 but is 8-11 against the Cardinals since it resumed in 1994 after a 70-year break.The Wildcats will host the ninth-ranked Cardinals in the Governor's Cup game on Sept. 14 at Commonwealth Stadium.
