University of Louisville Health Library Hosts Exhibit on Wounded Civil War Soldiers

A national traveling exhibit that tells the stories of wounded Civil War soldiers opens Monday at the University of Louisville’s Kornhauser Health Sciences Library downtown. The exhibit is called, “Life and Limb: The Toll of the American Civil War.”Library spokeswoman Tiffney Gipson says the exhibit highlights the vital role the city of Louisville had in the treatment of Civil War soldiers.“By 1863 there were 19 Union hospitals in Louisville, which may have been more than in any other city," Gipson says. "The Civil War is very important to the history of Kentucky and very important to our medical school. We wanted to bring in something to remind our students and staff of the part we played in the civil war and how important the Civil War is to us.”You can find the exhibit website here. The exhibit continues through March 29. It’s free and open to the public.
