U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is speaking Monday afternoon at the University of Louisville.

Rubio, of Florida, is a possible 2016 presidential candidate and gave the Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address earlier this year. His speech is part of the McConnell Center’s lectures.

WFPL’s Phillip M. Bailey is covering Rubio’s speech. Here are some quotes Bailey has reported so far:

  • “The only people who don’t have school choice is a poor family, put yourself in the shoes of a single mom.”
  • “Government’s job is to make prosperity easier—not harder.”
  • “I believe in a safety net, not as a way of life…but to help people help themselves.”
  • “We need to find out a more cost effective way to give our kids higher education.”

Bailey will have a full story on Rubio’s speech later today.
