The United States men’s soccer team tried to prolong its World Cup run Tuesday against Belgium.

With the match underway a continent away, a throng of fans gathered at Louisville Fourth Street Live. They watched every kick, shove and flop on a mega-screen,  cheering  each of goalkeeper Tim Howard’s saves and jeering Belgium’s two goals.

When the final whistle sealed the U.S.A’s fate, fans left Fourth Street disappointed in the loss.

Here is what a few of them had to say:

  • “We played a good game all through, got lucky with the second half, we just wound up with the loss.  We had our chances, we just didn’t succeed.” — Ryan Chesser
  • “Two goals in extra time, we can’t let that happen.” — Mitch Crite
  • “I don’t know if words can describe it.”  — Isaiah Thomas

They’ll have to wait awhile to avenge the loss to Belgium. The 2018 World Cup is set to take place in Russia.
