Want to Learn Beekeeping? 10 Schools are Scheduled Across Kentucky

Kentucky’s Department of Agriculture and state groups will hold 10 beekeeping workshops around the commonwealth over the next two months.

Kentucky state apiarist Tammy Horn said beekeeping is becoming more popular in the commonwealth as people make the connections between productive gardens and the insects.

“Beekeeping is absolutely a fascinating hobby,” she said. “Many people are starting to realize the importance of growing their own food and if they do that they’ll need to have pollination sources. So, raising a hive of bees is a good way to increase their seedset for their gardens. It also increases the quality of the taste of fruits and vegetables.”

Honeybee populations have dropped drastically in recent years, due  to diseases like colony collapse disorder. Beekeeping schools will be held around the state beginning this month;for a list of schools, go here.
