Watch: How Air Pollution Affects Your Lungs

Here in Louisville, we talk a lot about air pollution and the related health effects. We're entering ozone season, and if last year is any indication, there will be some days where pollution levels are so high, residents are encouraged to stay indoors. But for those of us without medical degrees, it's hard to actually picture how pollution is affecting our lungs, and how bad the air in any given place actually is.Enter Lung in a Box. NPR had a great story late last week about this portable invention that can simulate the effects of air on human lungs. And then, they produced this animated video that does a great job explaining the health effects of pollution, and how the new invention works:Lung in a Box isn't commercially available yet, but when it is it would be interesting to test in Louisville on a particularly muggy summer day when ozone levels are expected to be unhealthily high.
