WFPK's Sean Cannon Remakes 'Super Bowl Shuffle' With Jim James, Lil Bub and More

With the big game in sight, there's a star-studded remake of the "Super Bowl Shuffle" making the Internet rounds. It features Jim James, David Wain, Lil Bub (the cat), John Roderick, Tom Scharpling and a host of other notables from comedy and music. This track was masterminded and produced by WFPK's own Sean Cannon, host of After Dark. He's selling the song to raise money for charity, too. Here's the track and Sean's words on how it all came together. The Super Bowl Shuffle by Misfire Records If it wasn't for someone underestimating my stupidity, this all-star cover of "The Super Bowl Shuffle" wouldn't even exist. I'd become enamored with a recently-purchased 7" single featuring the full song backed with the instrumental track. After playing it for a third time in two weeks on my radio show, a regular listener called in and asked me to play the B-side, daring me to rap along. For some reason, he thought I wouldn't do it. Again, this is about someone underestimating my stupidity. So I did it. The next day, a friend that heard me suggested that I record my own version of the song and release it online. I'm still not sure why anyone would've wanted to hear me do an impromptu version of the song on the radio, much less a pre-meditated rendition. But then it hit me! People wouldn't want to hear me, but they'd want to hear other people do it. It was the worst idea in the best possible way. So I sent out dozens of emails and even more tweets. I started with folks I'd interviewed on my show in the past, gaining some traction. After hearing "no thank you" over 100 times (no exaggeration, except for the politeness of the language), I eventually got 10 people and one cat to say yes. And here we are today, with my entire life's work finally making its way into the world. Go to Bandcamp (who are being very nice and helping us out on this) and buy it! Pay more than $1, too, because every single penny that comes in is going to one of the best charities around, Reading Is Fundamental. In other words, I will be buying zero Fabergé eggs with your money. If you're not familiar with the charity, go to www.rif.org and educate yourself! Literacy is important, even if it did enable you to read this post from me...
