Each week, members of the WFPL News team spotlight interesting stories we've read and enjoyed, for your weekend reading pleasure:Laura Ellis: This piece looks at how tenant/landlord ordinances can have unexpected consequences for victims of domestic violence. In some cities, if a tenant calls the police too often, s/he can be evicted from a rental property, and the landlord can lose his or her license to rent out the property. In theory, this is to keep things quiet and weed out neighborhood troublemakers. In practice, it means victims of domestic violence are hesitant to call for help—and puts landlords in a position of policing their tenants. This story looks at the human consequences of these laws, and how the ACLU is trying to get rid of them.
