2011 Breeders' Cup to be Held at Churchill Downs

by Stephanie CrosbyChurchill Downs will host the 2011 Breeders’ Cup. It’ll be the second consecutive year the world championships will be held in Louisville.Breeders’ Cup President and CEO Greg Avioli says for a number of years they tried to hold the event at non-traditional tracks, but have found the two days of racing goes more smoothly at well-established tracks.“Looking forward, we believe we can put on the best event if we go to a facility that regularly puts on an event of the size and quality of the Breeders’ Cup," says Aviolo. "So, when you look at Churchill Downs, they put on the biggest event in racing in the country, if not the world, every year, so they have the experience to do that.”Avioli says the Breeders’ Cup organization is looking forward to seeing how two consecutive years at Churchill Downs goes. He likens it to an audition for a possible permanent home for the Breeders’ Cup.Avioli says attendance to the two-day event is also its highest when its held in Kentucky.
